49th edition Madeira Wine Rally pays tribute to the 500 years of Funchal city

Madeira Wine Rally will have this year its 49th edition. It is no doubt the major annual event held in the Region and is a competition that reaches more than just the sport. It is like a social event for the madeirans, for the great interest it generates. It is a celebration at all levels and a major promotional event for the Region in portuguese mainland and abroad.

The great regional rally, that received its name from one of the most important products of the region, started in 1959, at first with the name of “Tour of Madeira Island”, organised by CS Madeira, 95 years old historic club, and at once won many fans, for the passion the local people have for great speeds.

With time, our race grew, promoting more and more our island abroad and is today, with no doubt, the best event of the European Championship. The inclusion in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) made the rally even more competitive and attracting to the major factory teams of the world that always bring to madeira some of the leading names of european and world motorsport. This year will make no exception.
Everything is working to make the 49th edition another big success.
